Artist's Statement
My paintings are about the joy of seeing. They are paint first, and images second. Color and form are the two primary concerns of my work.
When I paint, I delve into the myriad possibilities for creating beauty through various shapes of patches of color, and through different methods of working with the materials. Often I play with a tension between abstraction - the luscious arrangements of paint on the surface of the canvas - and representation, with its illusion of the third dimension.
Much of my work deals with images of energy unleashed; however, I am also challenging the viewer to look beyond their potential first response at the subjects being referenced to the beauty that's right before their eyes -- the colors and shapes of paint.
